In the Beatles song,
"Rocky Raccoon went into his room, only to find Gideon's
Bible".
Traveling to cat shows
requires many overnight stays in hotels, and this little ditty stuck
in my mind when it was time to pick a name for the cattery. The
deviation from accepted spelling was just something I chose to do,
and doesn't really stand for anything in particular.
Rocky, as you may recall,
was stinking of gin when he came in. Not that we here at
Rocquoone propagate such behavior, but just for the purposes of
having a theme to go by we name our breeding animals after liquors
and mixed drinks. Some people have a book of Baby Names - we
use "The Complete Bartender." Its silly, but it
works.

Rocquoone was established
in 1988, with the help and guidance of wonderful friends, both Maine
Coon Breeders, and animal husbandry experts who work in the
veterinary field. The cats are registered and shown in The Cat
Fancier's Association, (CFA,
Inc.).
Rocquoone has been a breeder member of the Maine Coon Breeders and
Fanciers Association (MCBFA)
since 1991. We chose to lapse our membership in MCBFA in 2006, as we
do not feel the organization meets our ideals as much as it once
did.
Primary goals in the
breeding program are health, purrsonality and type.
Colors which strike my fancy are the rare and elusive brown tabby,
blue-silver tabbies

and clear, untarnished
silvers,
both
with
and without
white.

sometimes have these unusual colors available.
